Having a list of low carbohydrate foods available for dieting allows you to make good food choices. High carbohydrate foods can lead to excess weight, drowsiness, depression, bloating, high blood pressure and many other uncomfortable health problems. Some carbohydrates are good for you while others can be bad for your body. Having the right amount of good carbs gives your body enough energy for normal daily activities. Bread is notorious for being high in carbohydrates, but other foods carry carbs as well. You need to know the good from the bad ones.

Some of the foods you need on your list of low carbohydrate foods include:

Vegetables such as asparagus, beets, broccoli and cauliflower. Carrots, cabbage, celery and cucumbers are also good choices. Green beans, greens and lettuces, mushrooms, onions and peppers are all low carb. Tomatoes, turnips and zucchini should be added as well.

Meats and proteins such as beef, fish and chicken, ham lamb and pork are good carbohydrates in 1 ounce portions. Seafood like tuna and salmon, veal and turkey are good proteins. Cottage cheese, cheeses, eggs and peanut butter should be included.

Fats you are allowed include avocado, bacon, butter or margarine and cream cheese. Nuts, mayonnaise, salad dressings including oil and vinegar blends are low carbohydrate as well.

There are a number of unlimited free foods: These are foods with no or very little carbohydrates. Club soda, coffee, unsweetened tea, mustard, spices, herbs and soy sauce are free foods. Salsa, sour cream, ketchup, dill pickle, jam or jelly, syrup and yogurt are allowed but limit to 3 servings a day.

Basically,  all carbohydrates are sugars. Complex carbs are good carbohydrates for your body. These  sugars are very difficult to break down. Nutrients like vitamins and minerals  become trapped in the sugar strings. As they slowly break down, the other nutrients are also released into your body, and you can provide with fuel for a number of hours.

With a list of low carbohydrate foods you can make healthy food choices.
